Privacy policy

Sunsets Left is an app that counts the sunsets remaining for someone your age, using public life tables. It is published byNguyenInDoubt on the Apple App Store (iOS, iPadOS, macOS) and on Google Play (Android, packagecom.nguyenindoubt.sunsetsleft). This policy applies to every version, and it is short because there is genuinely nothing to disclose: the app collects no data.

What the app stores, and where

To compute its number, the app asks for three things: a birthdate, a life-table selection (female, male, or average), and a country. On Apple platforms these stay on your device and — if you use the app on more than one device — in your own private iCloud key-value storage, which Apple encrypts and associates with your Apple Account. On Android they stay in the app's private on-device storage, leaving the device only if your own Android backup settings include it. They are never transmitted to the developer or to any third party. There is no server on the other end to receive them.

What the app does not do

• No accounts on our side — on Apple platforms, Sign in with Apple is used only to hand the app an anonymous identifier; no name or email is requested. The Android app has no sign-in at all.
• No analytics, telemetry, or crash reporting beyond what Apple and Google provide to all developers in aggregate, subject to your own device-level sharing settings.
• No advertising, no tracking, no third-party SDKs.
• No location permission — your approximate place is derived from the time zone your device already reports.

The life tables

The actuarial data (the Social Security Administration period life table for the United States and the WHO Global Health Observatory tables elsewhere) ships inside the app. Lookups happen on your device.

Deleting your data

"Start over" in the app's settings removes your details from the device (and, on Apple platforms, from your iCloud key-value storage). Deleting the app removes everything else. Because nothing is ever sent to us, there is no server-side data to request or delete.
